LUCA Reading Pilot – Parent Information and Consent

Please read the information below before giving consent for your child to participate.

LUCA is a reading support program that helps students practice reading with guidance from an artificial intelligence reading specialist. It was developed over four years in collaboration with literacy experts at Carnegie Mellon University to support and extend classroom reading instruction.

During this pilot, your child will use LUCA at school for about 15 minutes, 5 times per week. LUCA listens as students read aloud, provides immediate feedback on small mistakes, and creates stories and lessons that match each student's reading level and interests. Teachers will be able to view progress data to better support each reader.

To run the program, LUCA collects your child's first name or school ID, reading performance data, short voice recordings while reading, and basic device information. All information is used only for educational purposes, is shared only with your child's school and authorized service providers, and is never sold or used for advertising. You may request to see or delete your child's data at any time by contacting [email protected].

Participation in this pilot is completely voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect your child's grades or standing, and students who do not participate will continue with regular classroom reading instruction.
